We often bring our fur kids on trips with us. We used to bring them to Lake Pleasant with us almost every time we were there. Usually they just hang out by the van enjoying the shade.![]() Camping at Lake Pleasant ![]() Camping at Lake Pleasant Throughout the day you'll see us taking them for a walk along and in the water. We'll have to find the dog friendly places in Florida. Here's a photo of them during a road trip to N. Florida. ![]() Road Trip Vegas, our German Shepherd, was the first fur kid we got together. We rescued him from a threatened trip to the river in a burlap sack. We're lucky to have him. He was a tad on the heavy side, but we put him on a strict diet, and not so strict exercise regimen. He's now slim and trim! ![]() Vegas ![]() Vegas ![]() Vegas Katie, our Weimereinar, came to our family in the beginning of 2006. A coworker had bought her at a pet store and two weeks later decided he couldn't handle her hyperactivity, so he gave her to us. We're still trying to get a photograph of her sitting still when she's not asleep! ![]() Road Trip Bernie, the St. Bernard, joined our family at the beginning of 2007. She was bought by a family that just didn't have time to spend with her. After a couple of years in a back yard, she's become a house dog in our home and loves it! ![]() Bernie aka Bernadette ![]() Bernadette ![]() Bernie ![]() Bernie Finally, Mr. Kitty (you guess which one he is) doesn't usually make it to the lake with us, but he does go to Florida with us every few months. ![]() Mr. Kitty ![]() Mr. K lounging on the love seat All of them get along great. Here are some photos of Mr. K and the pups playing: ![]() Mr. K and Vegas ![]() Mr. K and Vegas checking out the squirrels ![]() Mr. K and Katie Bernie is definitely a water dog. If it wasn't for being on a leash, we'd probably find her out in the middle of the lake. She also likes to dive in after the fish. Vegas can take or leave the water. He doesn't mind walking in it, but he'd rather not swim. It's just not his thing. Katie will get her ankles wet, but she's way too much of a princess to go much deeper with lots of coaxing from one of us. ![]() Bernie coming back from a swim Since moving to N. Florida, we've had our family grow by three. ![]() The newest family members We were checking out boat ramps on the river and found mom and her pups burrowed down in a hole mom had dug to protect them from the freezing temps we were getting at night. ![]() The babies Their eyes were still closed at the time and didn't even open for about a week. This first photo is of our original gang. Perdy is the Dalmation, Strega is the Doberman, Emmitt is the Terrier mix. Perdy and Emmitt came to the family with Rob, who had them since 1995. Strega was adopted by us in 2004 from a close friend who couldn't keep her anymore. Rob has known Strega since 1996. ![]() The original gang We lost Emmitt in 2006 at the age of 15. He hadn't been doing too well for a few months, but still managed to get around slowly. He waited until the family was together before taking his last breath at home. ![]() Vegas, Emmitt, and Mr. K ![]() Emmitt and Mr. K We lost Strega in the fall of 2006. We came home to find her muscles contracted so she couldn't bend her legs or move her neck. We had to take her on her last ride the next day. She lived to be 15 years old. ![]() Strega ![]() Strega and Mr. K We lost Perdy in January 2007 to old age. Her weight dropped by about half in the preceding 6 months, but she just kept plugging on. If she wasn't anything else, she was definitely stubborn. She also lived to be 15 years old. ![]() Perdy and Mr. K You'll notice that Mr. K was pretty receptive to when his brothers and sisters weren't feeling well. He would often lie down by them to comfort them. They are missed. |
